George Ridpath of Berwickshire: your most illustrious of ancestors

Hello all. I have some information that might be interesting to those of you who utilize this site and, I hope, some of you may have some very important information for me as well.

At present I am working on my PhD in Cambridge. My topic is the analysis of the political works of George Ridpath, the famous Scottish patriot and political author. George Ridpath was the son of one George Readpath, or Readparth, and the grandson of another relatively important Scottish figure, Thomas Ridpath of Fulfordlees. My information suggests that George Ridpath was born in or around 1665 somewhere in Berwickshire, and lived his early life in 'Cockburnspeth', while other sources have referred to the town of Coldbrandspath.

Henry Redpath

Hi,
I live in South Australia and am trying to find information on my gg-grandfather Henry Redpath. We don't have a lot of information, but know that he was born in 1846 in Scotland and immigrated to Australia between 1866 - 1872. We don't know what ship he travelled on, or if he was a convict, assisted or paying passenger. It was rumoured that he was travelling with his brother(name unknown).
He eventually settled in South Australia as a farmer and married Elizabeth Elliot of Watervale in 1873.
He was buried in September 1887 at Blyth Plains(Kybunga) South Australia.
His father's name was Samual Redpath (mother's name unknown).

This is quite ugly, but I was able to extract the old forum messages, which included the original Guestbook entries when we started the original redpath.org/ridpath.org/reidpath.org website in late 2000.
