1. Web Work! Big changes on the Redpath Ridpath Reidpath Website
This issue is a little late, but this time I have a very good excuse: a total reconstruction of the family website. Gone are the old static pages, we now have a content management system (CMS). I also decided to ditch my old internet service provider (ISP) and that transition to a new host for the site was not smooth at all. Both these major projects have been completed, and while I'm sure we still have some bugs to work out, the new site is open for business!
The new CMS has many new features, some are fully operational and others require a bit of work before we get them 100%. Here are some of the things you can do:
- News - Read the newsletter and 5 years of archives
- Blog - Web Logs (Blogs) are on line journals or diaries
- Buddy Lists - add folks with interesting posts to your own list of buddies
- Comments - almost everything on the site can be commented on - just click comment link and ask your question or have your say.
- Calendar - enter Family Reunions, important events, even your birthday!
- Forums - the ever popular forums are even better. We have an archive of the old forum, but we need to get the new forum primed, so enter your family notes, your missing links, and your recollections today.
- Image Galleries - your very own slide show!
- Notification - be notified of any updates to the web site, without logging in.
- Create your own pages and posts - There are a wide variety of items you can post, including creating your own web page
- Polls - vote on polls and express your opinion!
- Private Messages - send messages to your buddy list - it's just between you and your buddy.
- Search - the site search is much better!
- Upload Files - most posts allow you to attach a file, such as a picture, a document, gedcom file, anything!
- Subscriptions - you can subscribe and unsubscribe to several mailing lists.
One of our most popular features, the genealogy database, has taken much longer to get working, but I'm glad to announce that this last "missing feature" is now operational. Check out the Genealogy Database !
